Sharp’s LC-32D40U high-definition LCD HDTV proves you don’t have to sacrifice style for technology. This gorgeous 32-inch set features a strikingly shiny piano black cabinet that will become an elegant centerpiece to any room. It also features the latest Sharp screen and video processing innovations, as well as an integrated HDTV tuner, a space-saving design with bottom-mounted speakers, included stand, pure digital audio/video connectivity with two HDMI inputs, and a rapid-fire response time of 6 ms (milliseconds)–perfect for watching fast-action sports and movies.
This set features Sharp’s proprietary Advanced Super View (ASV) LCD panel technology, which uses an enhanced color filter that permits more light throughput. This increases the contrast ratio by 150 percent to 1200:1 for pure whites, deep blacks, and a higher range of colors. Sharp’s Quick Shoot video circuitry provides an ultra-fast pixel response time of 6 ms, which helps to ensure excellent detail and smooth motion during high-speed scene transitions. The screen also offers a low-reflection coating to reduce the effect of sunlight and interior lighting to provide vivid large-screen pictures wherever you install your LCD television.
The built-in ATSC tuner pulls HD signals right from the airwaves, and its QAM tuner is fully compatible with unscrambled HDTV cable reception. A standard analog NTSC tuner receives standard-definition (SD) programming. The screen delivers a true 1366 x 768-pixel HDTV resolution, and it also features a wide 176-degree viewing angle and 450 cd/m2 (candela per square meter) brightness rating–perfect for viewing colorful details in even direct sunlight.

HDMI is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver) with your TV–all over a single cable. HDMI supports standard, enhanced or high definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. It supports all ATSC formats–standard (SDTV), enhanced (EDTV), and high (HDTV).
Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.

We had the same problem as others where the screen is never started the displayed image. I asked a service contract so I resolved. Sharp is a service bulletin. Basically, it's easy, four screws are too long and grounded out. I do not know the technical department would give me no more.
Hopefully, you can call Sharp and get the information.
As a control, I think it's a great TV. The picture is great and we're really happy with him – now thatWe have solved the black screen of death!
Good luck

If this set for more than five years. He began to lose the image every once in awhile, 'but the sound was good. The problem has become more frequent until it is image. I found many more in line with exactly the same problem and many solutions, but all seemed to find Sharp respond. I have many calls to Sharp – also in discussion with two workers – before they realized the problem, said it was a service bulletin on it, and sent a mechanic to replace 6Screws and the drive. In half an hour, the set was new, but I ended up with Sharp for ever. You should not fight for a manufacturing defect corrected.

My Aquos LCD TV LC32D40U worked well for about 20 months later, as many owners have experienced, would stop the display of the TV and in my case, is no longer even produce a sound. The ignition device and a blank screen appears, no matter what I tried.
Called tech support and Sharp said, "never heard of this before," said Sharp, and nothing more or less can be heard for me. He pointed to the next certification workshop and gave a phone number.
<br/> The cost for the seminar examined only $ 175 TV. Ouch! Not sure what the final repair will cost, but expect a return call from the lab to say that there are between $ 350 and $ 500. Guess I learned a lesson in buying a low-cost manufactured by Sharp. Spend a little 'up-front and then later, more added value to be paid a lot of frustration.
UPDATE: repair shop said $ 2,000 to repair the LCD panel is dead. Tell shop in order for me to recycle. Total cost for 20 monthsThe property is close to $ 1,100.
Advised to avoid bad Sharp LCD TV built. It is not really worth the money.

UPDATE: August 22, 2007 – We now have service satellite dish and HD box and many HD channels. This set is wonderful. No problem after a year of ownership. The picture is very clear on all channels, HD or regular. And if this TV for the last year! If I buy another HD TV to do, I want something more out of 48 "and maybe plasma. However, the LCD very well.
First I would like my experiences. I wanted a HDTV, and LCD flat screens, plasma TVs do not. However, I knew little ornothing on the LCD HD. After thinking about buying one for months and have seen in stores, I asked the clerk, who was the simplest configuration and use. He suggested that Sharp. Since I liked the photo, I bought the Sharp. First, I had connected to the cable and a special HD box and I did not know how the reception for the cable connection. Then I switched to satellite, and close my cable company. What differnce in the picture, night and day difference, now I'm in loveWith this TV! This image is breathtaking and superb. I see the color and clarity that I never saw in my old analog JVC (and this was the best television I've ever heard so far). The image quality and color of this TV are stunning. I really like the crowd, and I love my movies on DVD, HD TV shows and even local points of her. Just to let you know, it takes some time to get used to the image and brightness of color on HDTV, But as you see more, do not want to go back in the old tube type goAnalog TV. The most important thing I learned is, a larger screen, this is put in zoom view. In this way, you lose lots of photos. The book has Sharp been a great help and I went on Google and I saw all that I can now have HDTV, and I'm learning as I go. All in all, my eyes are now happy if I have only this TV! Sharp is a great TV!
UPDATE: Monday, July 23, 2007 – The TV prices now 5 stars now for 2 reasons:
1) I have a dish HD receiver and many HD channelsWell, the wonderful view on this TV. (The old cable service I had a few HD TV shows on it, the dish has many more HD channels and the colors are not of this world now).
2) I read the book whole and knowing this TV. After all these months, I like this TV more and more …
SHARP LCD TV, LC-32SH20U – East Beach – Tucson, AZ
I bought this model in September 2006 and within 18 months began to fail when switched on. After several attempts it would finally become operational. The screen is proposed to wait for a message "please. Now, after just over 27 months, is to be activated permanently. The same message is displayed on the screen. While this TV screen is a nice, good resolution, so useless unless to light. Poor reliability!
Look for something else. – A. Merrill – Illinois
This is terrible motion blur in fast moving scenes (or scenes of average speed), 12 ms pixel response time due to its high. It 's also very difficult to see the full details in dimly lit scenes, due to its contrast ratio of 800:1. In dark scenes, the distinction between what is happening is impossible. The TV was a huge disappointment. After much research, I learned that the response time of 8ms pixel or less, to avoid motion blur of LCD display and a contrast ratio of 10,000:1 minimum (recommended). TestLook for these two functions (and others) in choosing an HDTV. This particular model of Sharp is very simple. You could use a better quality for your money are another HDTV.
